Both PEP classes have started learning about restaurants. We've set up an amazing italian restaurant called "PEPpers" in Ms. Catherine's class, complete with a salad bar, pizza station and an aromatic pasta sensory table! In Ms. Angela's classroom we're flippin some dogs and burgers at "PEP Burgers", making sandwiches, soups and salads at "PEPanara" and don't forget the sensory experience of our ice cream truck. Our Peppers have really enjoyed showing off their chef talents during play, but we've also whipped up some yummy edible and inedible crafty recipes. Our theme has also lead us to read some fun books such as "Pizza Party" & "Pete's Big Lunch" where we made a too big to eat silly sandwich. Sherwood PEP has the recipe for fun, so check us out!!!

In February he kiddos enjoyed activities related to stores and shopping. We had our very own Target, sporting goods store and grocery store. The children also enjoyed our flower shop around Valentines day where they could make bouquets for their moms and favorite teachers. You will also see some chocolatiers crafting yummy chocolate hearts (made out of chocolate play dough) to sell for the holiday. We got our play worthy snowfall in December and decided to bring the fun inside. During recess we took our shovels outside and scooped up a heaping pile of snow. We got out our watercolors and decided to paint the snow. We had some experienced fourth graders join us and everyone seemed to have a great time painting and even holding the snow!!
Today we finished up our gingerbread/family unit by decorating our very own gingerbread boys and girls. We had a lot of fun squeezing all the different colored icing onto our cookies and then adding different candies as eyes, noses, and buttons. We all tasted our cookies! Some friends loved their cookies, others preferred to eat the candy without the cookie! Everybody had a great time! The PEP team here at Sherwood wants to wish everybody happy holidays and a very wonderful New Year! We can't wait to see you all in 2014!!!!! After a few snow days we are finally back at school! This week we started our gingerbread theme! We are reading "The Gingerbread Family"! We started the week by making gingerbread boys and girls out of scented playdough! It was a lot of fun! We aldo decorated our dollhouse to look like gingerbread! We took a small break from gingerbread to enjoy the snow, we used watercolors to paint the snow different colors. We loved feeling the cold snow and then making it change colors! Winter is fun! Fall is one of our favorite times of the year! This week we read the story "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt", then we went on our own hunt for leaves behind the school building. We found big leaves and small leaves of all different shapes. That whole week we had some sensory fun with our leaves and a different texture/material every day. Check out our day with leaves and paint! We loved how it felt and looked!
For our first day of inclusion today we welcomed our new friends by exploring the pumpkins we got on our field trip! First we looked at the pumpkins with our magnifying glasses, we talked about the color and how it felt. Next we cut the top off and dug in! We all took turns scooping out some seeds and pulp. It was lots of messy fun!
Last week we had so much fun getting muddy and learning about farm animals! One of our favorite activities was acting out "Mrs. Wishy Washy" while we read the book. We practiced finding pigs, cows and ducks in our mud puddle. When we found the animals it was bath time! We made sure the animals were clean, just like Mrs. Wishy Washy!
We had so much fun making chocolate pudding today! It was fun following each direction, especially squeezing the milk into the bowl. It was just like milking a cow! Each friend got a turn to help with a different ingredient and we all got turns using the mixer. When the pudding was ready we all had a little taste! Some friends really enjoyed their pudding while others preferred their chips and crackers :)
Throughout the rest of the week we will use our left over pudding as mud for various different sensory farm activities. Cooking is always so much fun! We mixed fall scents like cinnamon, chocolate, pumpkin and vanilla with our finger paints and explored with our fingers and different toys each day. We could have spent hours with this yummy smelling sensory activity!
